Captain Tom Foundation launches One Hundred Reasons to Hope book
Puffin has published an illustrated children’s book celebrating stories of “triumph, perseverance and positivity” from the past year, with an introduction from Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore.
One Hundred Reasons to Hope was published on 16 September 2021, with £1 from each hardback sale in the UK and Ireland being donated to The Captain Tom Foundation.
The book features well-known stories from the pandemic such as Joe Wicks’ family workouts, as well as those of everyday heroes, including dancing binmen and fancy-dress postal workers, who brought joy to their neighbourhoods during the pandemic.
Stories tell of courage and community, kindness and perseverance, from scientists seeking a vaccine, to frontline workers putting themselves at risk.
One Hundred Reasons to Hope is illustrated by Adam Larkum with stories curated by Danielle Brown, who is a double Paralympian Gold medallist, children’s author and inspirational speaker for young people. It follows last year’s publication by Captain Sir Tom of a picture book for children with Puffin called One Hundred Steps. His memoirs have also been published.
September also marks the second anniversary of the launch of the Captain Tom Foundation. Since launch, it has partnered with seven charities including Helen & Douglas House and Mind, supported 10 projects and activities, and raised £1.4m for charitable causes through Captain Tom 100.
