The Empathy Instinct: How to Create a More Civil Society

Peter Bazalgette, former chair of Arts Council England, shares his experiences there, in the entertainment industry, and working on many social projects to explain the value and power of empathy in developing a more civil society.

He ranges much further afield to explore, in Barack Obama’s words, “the empathy deficit”. His book looks at neuroscience, primatology, and genetics, and then looks at how we can apply that knowledge to tackle problems such as radicalisation and racism to create kinder health and social care, a more effective criminal justice system, and a better society.

Culminating in a passionate manifesto on empathy, The Empathy Instinct is what makes us human and what can make us better humans.
