Nominations open for The Independent on Sunday's Happy List
The Independent on Sunday is once again seeking nominations for its Happy List, the newspaper’s “antidote to all those rich lists, wealth lists and celebrity lists” which “honours a different set of values”.
The list aims to feature 100 people who make Britain “a better, more well-adjusted, and happier place”. Not surprisingly, this can include fundraisers, volunteers, charity leaders and all kinds of people in and around the charity/voluntary sector, the arts/cultural sector, social enterprise, and the public sector.
Those who have appeared on previous lists – this is the fifth year of the Happy List – have included inspirational teachers, inventors, women who have fostered and hundreds of children.
The newspaper suggests that nominations could be quite wide ranging, from a doctor or midwife, to a comedian, artist, musician, or someone who has battled to save part of Britain’s heritage or countryside. The key element is that they must not be a celebrity, and their motive must be “human happiness, rather than feathering their own nest”.
How to nominate for The Independent on Sunday Happy List
The charity sector alone should throw up a very long list of names, but you have to nominate them. To do so, just send a few details about them and the reason you are nominating them to [email protected], (“no attachments, please”), or, by post, to: IoS Happy List, Letters editor, Independent on Sunday, 2 Derry Street, London W8 5HF.
